The Apodosis of the Feasts of our Lord Jesus Christ and Theotokos

8th of September.Nativity of Theotokos. Is celebrated for five days and ends at 12th of September.

 

14th of September.Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Is celebrated for eight days and ends at 21st of September.

 

21st of November.The Entrance of Theotokos. Is celebrated for five days and ends at 25th of November.

 

25th of December.The Holy Nativity. Is celebrated for seven days and ends at 31st of December.

 

1st of January. Circumcision of Jesus Christ. The feast of Lord’s circumcision is ending the same day at 9th Hour, saying the Apolytikion and Kontakion of it.

 

6th of JanuaryThe Holy Epiphany. The feast of Holy Epiphany is celebrated for nine days. At 14th of January is the Apodosis of the feast, the service of the day (they Holy Abbadon) is co-chanted with the service of the previous day.

  • In case the 14th of January happens to be the Sunday of Publican and Pharisee, then the apodosis of Theofania will be at 13th of January. In this case is co-chanted the service of the day (St. Ermilu and Stratoniku) with the saint of the day at 12th of the month.

 

2nd of February.The Presentation of our Lord. The feast of the Presentation of Christ if it happens outside the Triodio or the Friday after the Sunday of Publican and Pharisee, it is celebrated eight days and the apodosis of it at 9th of February.

  • If the feast happens from the Saturday of the eve of Prodigal Son until the Tuesday and after Sunday of the Prodigal Son, the apodosis happens the next Friday (before Saturday of Souls).
  • If the feast happens from Wednesday after Sunday of the Prodigal Son until Saturday of Souls, apodosis happens at Tuesday after Sunday of Meat-Fare.
  • If the feast happens from Sunday of Meat-Fare until next Tuesday, apodosis happens at Friday of that week.
  • If the feast happens from Wednesday after Sunday of Meat-Fare until Saturday of this week, apodosis happens at Sunday of Cheese-Fare.
  • If the feast happens at Sunday of Cheese-Fare, apodosis happens the same day at Vespers.
  • If the feast happens at Monday after Sunday of Cheese-Fare (Clean Monday), apodosis happens the same day at Vespers.

* To satisfy who like services we note that if the feast of the Preparation happens at Saturday of Souls, the service of Souls is moved the previous day at Friday.

 

25th of March.The Annunciation of Theotokos.The feast of the Annunciation of Theotokos ends the same day at Vespers.

  • If the feast happens at Saturday of Lazaros, it ends at 9th Hour, reading the Apolytikion and the Kontakion of it.
  • If the feast happens at Sunday of Palms, at G.Monday, at G.Tuesday, at G.Wednesday and at G.Thursday, the feast ends at Vespers of the same day.
  • If the feast happens at G.Friday or G.Saturday is transferred at Sunday of Pascha, so apodosis happens the same day at Vespers and co-chanted with Resurectionals Troparia. The same happens if the feast coincides the three first days of the Easter Week.

 

Holy Pascha. The feast of Holy Pascha is celebrated for forty days and ends at Wednesday before Holy Ascension.

 

Thomas Sunday. Is celebrated for a week and ends at Saturday’s eve of the Myrrh Bearing Women.

 

Holy Mid-Pentecost. Is celebrated for eight days and ends at Wednesday in the 5th week after Pascha.

 

Holy Ascension of Christ. Is celebrated for nine days and ends at Friday before Saturday of Souls.

 

Holy Pentecost. Is celebrated for seven days and ends at Saturday of the same week.

 

6th of August. Transfiguration of the Lord. Is celebrated for eight days and ends at 13th of August.

 

15th of August. Dormition of Theotokos. Is celebrated for nine days and ends at 23rd of August. (In the Holy Mountain and elsewhere in honor of Theotokos the after-feast (metheorta) of the Dormition of Theotokos extends until 28th of August.)
