Typicon of the Orthodox Church 2012-2013

  • We are happy to announce that the Sacred Monastery of Panagia Drenia has published the Typicon of the Orthodox Church for the new ecclesiastical period which begins on September 1, 2012 (Julian Calendar). This is a basic aid for clergy and chanters.

METROPOLITAN VISSARION OF SYDNEY HAS DEPARTED TO THE LORD.

  • We have been informed that His Eminence Metropolitan Vissarion of Sydney departed to the Lord today at 10:30 (Australia time) after a few days of hospitalization.
  • The late Metropolitan of Sydney Mr. Vissarion (in the world Vassilios Sotiropoulos) was born in Argolis in 1943. He was tonsured  a monk in 1972 and ordained deacon and priest in 1976. In 2002 he was elected and consecrated Bishop of Tarsus by His Eminence Metropolitan Kallinikos of Fthiotidos and our Sacred Synod. In 2007 he was elected Metropolitan of Sydney where he served till his repose.
